Marketing communications is not just there for the good times. In fact, and generally misunderstood, it is an organisation’s first line of defence in a crisis or downturn. And yet, it is often the first area to be frozen or cut in a crisis which then will have a deep and long term impact on a businesses ambitions.
Recovering a reputation or voice in the market following a period of cuts will take a long time or cost considerably more than was saved. Also, the loss of credibility and messaging from the business will undoubtedly erode trust and confidence – again two areas that can take a considerable time to rebuild.
